INTERVIEW | ZARA KHALIQUE | THE GIRL CHANGING THE WORLD ONE POSITIVE VIBE AT A TIME

Meet KEEP IT BRIGHT owner and founder Zara Khalique, the 24 year old beauty from Manchester changing the world one positive movement at a time..  Starting out in her bedroom, Zara has been hand making the world a little bit brighter since 2007, spreading positive messages daily through her online platforms and out & about in her community. She leads positive, creative workshops in Manchester and acts as a mentor and role model to people all over the world.

“I just think a positive mindset really does change your life for the better and I want that for everyone”

With a keen eye for fashion, uniqueness and creativity, Zara’s talents first appeared as a child when she first started making her own clothes. The Keep It Bright ranges hosts an array of garments and accessories featuring hand drawn designs, hand painted limited edition items and one-off hand-made and hand-embellished items all made by Zara.

A few of my favourite items have to be the Bright Adventures Journal, Choose Happiness t-shirt,  GOOD VIBES ONLY rings , the essential Keep It Bright Handbook and her latest design ‘Kind Heart Fierce Mind Brave Spirit coat! Check out Zara’s full current range on her website.

KIB has a growing celebrity following with big names such as Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Miranda Keer, Ella Ayre to mention a few of the loyal followers of the brand. Most recently we have seen Miley Cyrus taking a particular shining to KIB, resulting in Zara’s clothing being paparazzi’d in magazines and online fashion blogs!

Zara’s positive efforts were noticed back in 2012 after being selected to visit Ethiopia and work with street children, she has since been nominated for the Dalai Lama Compassion Award 2012 and Humanitarian of The Year Award in 2013. Check out Zara’s Ethiopia blog following her journey in 2012 with some wonderful photos.

Tell us about a day in the life of Zara…. your alarm has just gone off and it’s time to go about your day… GO!
Ah well it really differs, but on a standard day at the moment I get up, check my emails and everything, then make stuff for orders, iron, pack & post them (super glamorous!) then work on making new stuff, drawing new designs or continue with whatever projects I’m working on and post/promote on my social networks throughout the day. I do absolutely love working from home, deffo has many perks!

You’re one of the most inspiring young ladies I’ve met, over the years Keep It Bright has evolved into a unique brand, tell us more about Keep It Bright and what it represents to you. ..
Thankyou so much! It really has grown, but my aim has always been to reach as many people in the world as possible with my messages, I just think a positive mindset really does change your life for the better and I want that for everyone! Keep It Bright is what I live to do.

What inspires you the most when creating a new collection?
I don’t put out collections as such, I just release new stuff whenever, but if i’ve found a phrase or slogan that really strikes me I could base a design around that, and decide how I can best translate it onto clothing. Generally though, colours inspire me, bold, colourful style inspires me.

We’ve seen the brand make it’s way to the supporting bodies of celebrities such as Ed Sheeran, Hannah Snowdon, Ella Eyre and most recently spotted Miley Cyrus in the yellow two piece! Tell us more about Miley and how it feels to have support from celebrities and style icons.
Miley’s been keeping it bright for the past 7 months now and I just adore her! Everything she stands for and speaks out about is on point, I am so so happy to have someone so amazing representing and wearing my brand so often, it’s an amazing feeling! Especially when you love their voice or talent too, it’s mutual love.

What’s your best advice for making people see the light in life?
I’d say to trust the timing of your life, because all your strength and wisdom is found in your struggles, everything does fall into place. The world isn’t against you.

If a kid walked up to asking for your advice and you only had a few minutes to give ‘em your best tip, what would it be?
To know that they are capable of anything they set their minds to and are willing to work for. To dream bigger and just be the best them they possibly can. We have to bloom where we’re planted. Also to always keep their problems in perspective and count their blessings! Gratitude is everything.

What are you working on right now, anything new in the pipeline to give the readers a little insight into what’s going on inside Zara’s notebook….
I’m actually working on a few new books! A full colour proper updated Keep It Bright Book which I’m really excited about and I have a few others coming too. Always tons of plans I’m working on though, so you can expect a lot coming this year!

Anything else to add or anyone in particular you’d like to thank?
I’d like to thank everyone who supports KIB every day and also everyone who takes time to spread positive messages, you’re saving people’s days and in turn their lives too!
