MY FIRST TRIP TO NL CONTEST | STRASBOURG

After an amazing long weekend, I’m now on the way back the grey old Manchester after spending 5 days in one of the most beautiful cities I’ve seen so far…Strasbourg, France.

Strasbourg hosts an annual event called NL Contest which brings together an array of sports, music and art communities for a busy weekend of contests and culture. Thanks to the hard work and dedication from a number of local organisers including Mathias Silhan, the event has grown bigger each year, now celebrating 10 years!

After hearing all the positive feedback about how sick it is it from Trebble, Quinny & Alex over the years, I knew I needed to go!

On the first night we met up with the BHC family and the UK (roast beef) boys for an exclusive screening of BHC End Of The Line in the local cinema! Later we went on to meet the Razors boys for a long night of drinking and wondering, actually the rest of the trip was pretty much the same routine of food then a lot of drinking….

The NL is well known amongst the locals and hosts a variety of competitions and showcases for rollerblading, BMX, skate, scooter, breakdancing, basketball, slack lining, graffiti, parkour, trials riders, unicycles,  art and music, there’s so much to do/see in what seems like so little time. On Friday the first day of the contest weekend opened with the AM street comp setting the standards high for the girls and Pros.

The park had a pretty sick street course set up for the contest and also a huge vert and a decent mini, hard to come across all 3 in one spot these days! The riders kept the crowds cheering and the atmosphere buzzing, everyone has their own style and variety of tricks to keep the day busy and the crowd excited.  Joe Atkinson killed the pro comp taking a well deserved 1st place, Nicholas Serve 2nd and CJ Wellsmore in 3rd. It must have been really hard to judge as you can see from the top 3, each rider has a very different style and way to use the course.

The hotel ‘Graffalgar’ we stayed at for the weekend was like a Graff dream house, with each room commissioned by a different graffiti writer / artist. The whole hotel had good vibes, with some very aesthetically pleasing surroundings and cultural vibes, right up my street! The staff are really helpful, like minded and friendly. The location is ideally located right next to the station so easy access everywhere! 100% recommend anyone to stay here! Thank you to Matias and NL contest for hookin’ it up – amazing spot.

The after parties usually continued the flow of never ending beer and whisky from the Contest to the city. A blur of bar after bar, and kebab house after kebab house with some of my favourite people and some very enthusiastic locals, good times!

Massive thank you to all the organisers for NL contest and even more gratitude to the good man Mathias for looking after us during our stay. Check out the StrasTV for all coverage from the weekend!

See you next year!
